Our primary means of advertising is the spotlight program segments that appear at the top of each page. Here is how it works.

Each subcategory page can have at most one spotlight program. So what is a subcategory page? A subcategory page is something like Business:Calculators. The subcategory page is the page with the big table with all the software listed in it. As I said, there can be at most one spotlight program. If the spotlight slot is already taken, then you can't buy it. Got it?

The master category pages also contain spotlight slots. What is a master category page? It's something like Business -- the "parent" of Business:Calculators. The master category pages work differently than the subcategory pages. The master pages automatically randomly rotate the spotlight programs from the subcategory pages. Thus, you don't have to "buy" a spot on a master page: if you've purchased a spot on a subcategory page, you automatically get inserted into the rotation.

Now, at the very top (home) page, we have two spotlight program slots. These are also automatic spots, and rotate the spotlight programs from the subcategory pages.

So, let's say you buy a spotlight listing in Business:Calculators. Your spotlight program will be shown in the following pages:

 

Business:Calculators	all the time, since you own the spot
Busniess	rotated with other spotlight programs in the business category (i.e. you're competing with advertisers in Business:Database, Busniess:Word Processing, etc)
Home Page	rotated with all of the spotlight programs on the entire website (i.e. you're competing with every advertiser on the site)

So, what you can see is that by buying one subcategory spotlight slot, you're getting a lot of exposure. You get full exposure on your subcategory page, as well as a fair amount of exposure on your master category page. You even get some exposure on the home page, the most popular page on the site!
